Happy New Year 2019!!! I know new year new me is frowned up on by people these days, but I do like anything that gives us a reason to review and reflect on our life as we go through day after day with good and bad. This new years eve gave me an insight that I haven’t been running as much as I used to. Sure enough I did log a 30mile week thanks to the new years resolution! Now if I can only keep that up right! Struggle is real, but find that motivation, find that excuse, find that reason and find that voice that would put you back on track and will take you through those miles! Here are some of my favorite races to run each month in 2019 to get you started with. I have races up until June. I sure will update this to include races for summer and fall, which is a pretty packed race season here in Southern California!
January – Carlsbad Marathon/Half Marathon
Why I like it!: Carlsbad Marathon/Half Marathon is one of my favorite races to run mostly because the time of the year – January which is nice and cold. Carlsbad course is beautiful. Plenty of parking at the mall where the start line is. I absolutely love the winter running jacket that you get with the race packet – worth making the trip to the expo the day before to get the right size! You will want to keep it as its well made, and worth the registration fee!

February – Surfcity Marathon/Half
This is one of SoCal favorite for many reasons. You get to run through surfcity Huntington Beach coast line, and the flat course marathon has been a boston qualifier favorite among runners. Being a February race, its nice perfect running weather!

March – Encinitas Half Marathon
I ran this race first time randomly when someone offered to sign me up last min. That was also the inaugural race. I have run this race every year since then! I would like to come back run again this year! Its beautiful course, and you get baked goods and hot chocolate post race. Its just a low key good hearted high spirit down to earth no frills race, that really emphasizes what running is all about! Joy! and the hot chocolate mug you can take home has been a tradition and legendary!

April – Carlsbad 5000
Why : Carlsbad 5000 is the first running race I have run ever – a 5k! I fell in love with running here. This race has been a very defining moment in life. Someone from my past that I never thought would see ever again, ended up running this race with me the first year I ran this race. Last year, I took in a sick foster dog, I couldnt leave, so I took him to the race, and my friend Sarah helped dog sit while I ran my course PR! This race is super close to my heart and me in general. Over the years this race has switched hands, but the spirit of the race is still the same which is all of us that run this race! I will be running here this year!

May – Laguna Hills Memorial Day Half Marathon
Why I like it: This is the first course I ran a half marathon, or the first time ever I ran a 13.1 mile distance in my entire life, so I am very fond of this race. I live super close so I have to like it. There arent that many races in May so I have seen people travel to OC to run this race from out of state. Also the temperature tend to be nicer and not too hot! Perks is the absolutely beautiful medals from Ashworth Awards who make medals for Boston Marathon! Its a Monday race – remember that! 🙂

June – Rock N Roll San Diego Half/Marathon
This was my first marathon, so I always remember how I got my behind handed to me in this course, but that is why you will love this race. The course is hard, but the energy is high and June is not a bad time to run in San Diego! Usually the prices between Marathon and Half Marathon are like $10, so sign up for marathon and if you change your mind you can run half, the time adjusts on its own with you having to do much. How convenient is that. Its perfect way to sign up for a marathon – for people with commitment issues!
