Registration for Shoreline Front Runners running group’s annual Long Beach Pride Run which usualy precedes the Long Beach Gay Pride parade, is open! This year, the Long Beach Gay Pride and the Pride Run will take place on May 19th 2019 – Sunday.
Shoreline Front Runners Running group in Long Beach, is part of the ‘International Front Runners’ not for profit organization, which has Front Runners groups across the globe. The two other chapters close to home is Los Angeles Front Runners, and San Diego Front Runners. We don’t have a Front Runners group in OC, so I tag along with our Long Beach group usually for the run!
This year, the race commemorates 50th year Stonewall Riot that took place back in 1969 – one of the key seminal events that paved way to what would eventually become a greater movement towards equality and equal rights to all.
On to the race, as each year, it will be a 10k or 5k run, and the race takes place by Junipero Ave and Ocean Blvd. the course is the paved sidewalk that runs along the beach. Super flat.

Everyone gets a tech-t, and finisher medal .Race day bib pick up. The race is very much of a local low key race, with few hundred people each year. Everyone is welcome!
Patricia Nell Warren who has been one of the first female runner in Boston, whose book ‘The Front Runner’ inspired the ‘International Front Runners’ running chapters passed away recently so this will be one of the run to remember her, so even if you dont usually run races, do come participate, and honor her memory and the others who made it possible for so many of us to enjoy what we now take for granted – equality!
