Few years ago I came to this race to cheer on someone who was running the half marathon! After that day I went home wondering how I could train myself to run such a long distance – 13.1 miles! That was April 24th 2016. I came back in April 2017 to run my 13th Half a Marathon here, and finished it at 1:43:26. I came back last year in the midst of several challenges, and ran a 1:43:55. There are moments in life that moves us to be more and to do more, and this race back in 2016 was one of those vivid moment for me! I always make it a point to come back here every year, like a pilgrimage. It reminds me how this thought of running long distance started in me! And this year, I am part of the race, got to serve the race as an ambassador (
Here we are, 2019 – and we have 4 more days to go for the La Jolla Half Marathon 2019 – which is on April 28, 2019. I can’t wait to come back and run my heart out! From training wise, I have pretty reasonable base miles built in, and I have been running regularly. I am slower than last two years over all, but speed is just icing some time, the real privilege is to run and run it all the 13.1 miles!
If you are still on the fence about La Jolla, hopefully, this blog does it for you to make a decision! This is race is very unique, and those Torrey pines hill, definitely would serve you the humble pie! The beautiful course and the ocean and the hill, and the super nice down hill that is in the 3rd of the race, is all beautiful! The finish line, by the shore where you get your finish line Ballast Point Beer – which should all make it one of the fun race weekend!
Couple of things to remember:
- The race starts at 6:30am this year, so plan your drive, and also what you wear accordingly. It will be little bit colder than we used to but also remember it gets hot in an hour. So depending on the time you run, make sure to dress accordingly!
- I always prefer parking by the Hilton and taking the shuttle back after the race. Its so hassle free.
- Read my past blog about different quirks of the course : https://runrollrestrepeat.com/2017/04/25/6-things-to-remember-when-i-run-la-jolla-half-in-2018/
Registration is still open. Use code RGLJ19 for $10 off.
See you at the race Sunday!
